You have several ways in which you can submit an
application to be a
- DELEGATE to the MTA Annual Meeting

- DELEGATE to the NEA Representative Assembly
New Orleans, LA - July 1 to July 5, 2012
- CANDIDATE for DCE / Part-Time Director to the MCCC

Note:
ALL communications with candidates by the MCCC office will be by EMAIL.
After
the ballots are in and counted, the office must verify that electees
plan to honor their commitment to attend, so that hotel reservations
can be made, roommate preferences obtained and rooms assigned, and
alternate delegates be given the opportunity to be delegates. Email
communications greatly facilitates accomplishing these tasks in a
timely fashion. |

Write-in Candidates
- Write-in candidates are permitted. for MTA Delegate
Assembly
and/or NEA Representative Assembly. Write-in candidates MUST register
with the MCCC prior to the close of elections; information is provided below.
Candidates for NEA Representative Assembly
NEA Bylaw Rules on NEA-RA
- MCCC members in good standing on January 15, 2012, who pay
their
NEA dues through the MCCC may seek election as MCCC local delegate to
the NEA-RA. Only members who pay their dues to NEA through the MCCC are
entitled to vote in the election for MCCC delegates to the NEA-RA.
Members teaching in DCE or part-time day who pay NEA dues through
another MTA local (MSCA, a K-12 local, etc) may seek election and vote
for NEA-RA delegates only through that local. Individuals who join NEA
through MCCC or another local after January 15, 2012 are not eligible
to
seek election as a delegate to the 2010 NEA-RA.
- No dues money may be used to promote the candidacy of any
individual for an NEA office.
Delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly
- The MTA provides a stipend of $400. The MCCC provides
additional reimbursement*
support up to $800 to the top 15 candidates.
*Receipts
and proof of attendance
at six of the eight sessions at the NEA RA are required for
reimbursement.

Bylaw Rules on MTA-DA
- MCCC members in good standing on March 1,
2012, who pay their MTA dues through the MCCC may seek election as MCCC
local delegate to the MTA-DA. Only members who pay their dues
to
MTA
through the MCCC are entitled to vote in the election for MCCC
delegates to the MTA-DA. Members teaching in DCE or part-time
day
who
pay MTA dues through another MTA local (MSCA, a K-12 local, etc) may
seek election and vote for MTA-DA delegates only through that
local.
Individuals who join MTA through MCCC or another local after March 1,
2012 are not eligible to seek election as a delegate to the
2012 MTA-DA.
- MCCC Members on the MTA Board are ex officio delegates to
the MTA.
- Delegates shall be registered at the Annual Meeting (DA)
for a term of one year.
- No dues money may be used to promote the candidacy of any
individual for an MTA office.
Delegates to the MTA Annual Meeting
- Stipend: The MCCC provides a stipend of
$50 dollars per day to delegates who attend the meeting.
- Hotel Room: Delegates who are on the
ballot and who live more than 25 miles from the meeting
are entitled to
a double occupancy hotel room at the convention hotel, arranged by the
MCCC, for Friday night. Write-in candidates will be accomodated on a
space available basis.
- Election
Waiver for Candidates for MCCC Delegate to the MTA Annual
Meeting
If
the number of
certified
candidates for MTA delegate is less than or equal to the number
permitted, then those candidates are deemed elected. A ballot
process will be conducted to permit write-in candidates for none-filled
slots, or to be named as successor delegates.
Policies Related to Candidates
for Officer and At-Large Part-time Adjunct Director
- From the MCCC Bylaws as amended April 2008: The Board of
Directors shall be composed of the officers, one member elected for a
term of one year from each chapter by the members of the chapter, and
two at-large part-time/adjunct members elected by part-time/adjunct
members as part of the regular election cycle each year.
The term of office for members other than officers shall be one year
beginning with the June Board meeting of the year in which members are
elected. The
Board of Directors is empowered to fill vacancies in the two
part-time/adjunct positions which occur after the election cycle.
- Candidates must submit a NOMINATION SIGNATURE FORM
to the MCCC office with
the required number of active member signatures by
the nomination deadline. For officers this is at least fifty (50)
signatures, and for at-large-part-time adjunct director this is at
least ten (10) MCCC active member, Note that agency fee
payers may not nominate and their signatures do not
count.
- Candidates for these offices must be on the ballot to be
eligible for
election. No write-in candidates are permitted.
- Association membership lists appropriate
to
the office being sought may be provided by the Nominations and
Elections Committee equally to all certified officer and at-large
part-time adjunct director
candidates. An electronic file of only part-time member names, mailing
addresses, and home colleges will be provided to all certified
at-large part-time adjunct director candidates without cost,
upon request and completion and
submission of the board-approved address list request form to the
Nominations & Elections Committee chair.
- Candidates will be permitted a statement published
in
the February newsletter and/or online. This must be no longer than 250
words
and submissions longer than 250 words will be truncated to that
length. This statement and, optionally, a good quality recent photo,
must be
submitted
to the communications coordinator (communications@mccc-union.org) by
the time nominations close to qualify for publishing in the newsletter
and/or online.
