...some of the pictures that we (Nick, the college's photographer
BHCCPA member) took yesterday. Our march was successful by all
accounts. We distributed over 2000 fliers (modifications of the NSCC
and BCC handouts) to our students, and the people who were attending
the BHE meeting on our campus. The membership was well represented
with senior and junior faculty and professioanl staff. The members of
the BHCC ASFCME unit were out in force to support us. I can't tell
you how much that meant to us. Students marched with us. President
Fifield welcomed everyone with comments about the need to fund our
contract. We were pleased that Ned McGuire (MBCC) joined us. Pat
Markunis, President of the MSCA walked with us for a bit. Katie
D'Urso (MTA) was here too. Don Williams and Lisa (MTA Communications)
were also here taking pictures and walking with us.
The faculty are reporting that the students are asking lots of
questions, expressing concern, and asking what they can do to help. I
suspect we'll organize a card writing campaign if this isn't resolved
soon. The BHCC Chapter has asked the BHCC Trustees to set up an
escrow account to pay our salary increases if they are not funded by
June. The trustees received our motion and it is an item on next
month's agenda.
Some of went into the meeting and spoke with anyone who would listen.
A reporter from the Boston Herald took our names and said he'd call.
Geri Curley and I spoke with the Chancellor and Tocco right after the
meeting. The Chancellor restated her support and desire to resolve
this issues as quickly as possible. Tocco was more focused on the Law
School.
Yours in Solidarity,
Susan Dole
